Firewatch, the New Hotness by Campo Santo
When I think of Campo Santo, the first thing I see is those awesome Ghibli and Star Wars posters by Olly Moss. I certainly don’t think of a mystery game about a forest guard and his radio. I kinda dig that now.
Firewatch is the new game being made by former members of big time studios like Klei, Telltage Games and Double Fine. It’s a first-person game where you’re tasked with exploring a vast forest and prevent fires.
Talking bluntly, what I’ve liked the most about this project so far is their website, which is very well design and gives an elegant feeling to the game. It reminds me of Double Fine’s approach to games, where the branding of their games is strong and tasteful in almost every aspect.
The game’s graphic palette reminds me of Team Fortress 2 with simple textures and very nice shading, although with more detail all around. I’m curious to see how they’ll follow through on the advertising for the game using such an interesting concept, but until then what they’ve done works great on my computer as a beautiful wallpaper.
Firewatch is headed to PC, Linux and Mac, but perhaps we’ll see it in consoles as well sometime down the road.
